Author and elementary school teacher Julie Lake picture walks us through the art of Zhu Cheng-Liang for Yu Li Qiong’s picture book A New Year’s Reunion (Candlewick Press) after reading books to the second graders on her elementary school campus.

She also examines the popular Squirrel’s New Year’s Resolution 
by Pat Miller with pictures by Kathi Ember (Albert Whitman & Company.)

Illustrator Cheng-Liang graduated from the fine arts department of the Nanjing Arts Institute. He has illustrated picture books and comic books published in China. He lives in Nanjing.

Free picture book writing workshop this Thursday!

Mira Reisberg, phD author-illustrator, editor, art director, founder of the Children’s Book Academy and all-around picture book whisperer hosts an online workshop at 7:30 p.m. U.S. Central Time, Thursday, January 3.

Five guest instructors will help co-teach the session focused on picture book hooks and beginnings, creating exciting main story characters and getting them in and out of trouble, page turns, plot twists and much more.
